Why Should You Display Family Photographs In Your Home
In today’s digital age, the trend is (and we are all guilty of) constantly taking lots of photos and not putting them into print. Our phones are constantly on hand to capture every moment, when our children do something really funny, when they achieve something special, when they are asleep, when they are playing with their friends/siblings the list goes on, but what is the point if we just forget about them a few days later, these are magical moments they need to be showcased for everyone especially your little ones to see, rather than remaining stored on our electronic devices or occasionally popping one or two on social media but rarely actually going as far as displaying them in our home.
So why is it so good for children to see photos displayed in the family home? We have done a little research and wanted to share with you the importance
BOOSTS SELF-ESTEEM AND CONFIDENCE
Psychologists suggest that family photos displayed in the home help children to develop a stronger sense of self-worth and belonging. When children see pictures of themselves displayed around the house, it creates the thought in their minds that they belong, that they matter, and, most of all, that they are loved.
CREATES FAMILY CONNECTIONS
Photos have a unique way of freezing a moment, so they are perfect for preserving memories of joy, love and tenderness. When children see these images, they can be reminded of fun times they have had with their siblings, cousins, parents, grandparents, and their wider family and friends… in short, people that matter to them, which in turn strengthens their emotional connection. This is particularly important if families don’t live close by but are still visible around them every day. A constant reminder of people who love them.
SERVES AS A CONVERSATION STARTER
Having family photos displayed in your home encourages storytelling
My grandchildren love nothing more than to look at photos and talk about the people in them, what they were doing in the photo, what they might be doing now, how they are related to them, how old they are, when they will next see them and the conversation goes on…
This feeling of connection, in turn, helps to foster an awareness of family history as well as discovering their heritage and bridges the generation gap
CELEBRATIONS AND MILESTONES
Displaying photos of significant milestones and achievements helps children to feel proud of their accomplishments. Whether it’s a photo of their first birthday, a family holiday or a school event, images displayed serve as a visual reminder of their successes and special shared moments. T may also encourage them to set and pursue new goals.
BOOSTS EMOTIONAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
And finally, a huge plus for everyone: looking at photographs of happy times can trigger the release of oxytocin, lowering stress and fostering feelings of warmth, comfort, and security. This is equally helpful in tough times when surrounding yourself with images of loved ones can provide solace, perspective and a sense of hope.
We hope this has helped you realise the power of photography and spurred you on to maybe take some time out to choose some favourite photos from your phone feed or camera roll to display around your home.
WHY CHOOSE A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER
We see some great photos on our friends’ and clients’ feeds, but most of them are grab shots, snatching a moment in time. “Snaps” my grandmother would have called them and that describes them perfectly a moment snapped. But for a piece of art to go on your wall, most people want something a little more thought about, clothes that coordinate to make the whole photo easy on the eye. In a climate where many people pay great attention to interior design and styling, they want to create a photo that complements their home and style.
This is where we come in, we will find out what you are looking for from your photo session, whether you would like the images to be posed in a very relaxed way or be more about interaction between you all. Together, we will create photos that you will love and can’t wait to hang on your walls and place around your house
It is our greatest privilege to have helped many families create memories that last forever over the last few years, and we would love to help you, too. Why not check out more of our work and give us a call or drop us a message?
